Prior to 1941, Burt Cheever Sr. owned and operated a bar located just east of the present building. The original building was remodeled from a private residence to serve as a bar.
Before the home was built, this location served as a landing strip, reportedly used as a practice runway for Charles Lindbergh. For a short time after, it served as a city landfill.
1941-1947 Ruben Scheidt owned and operated Ruben’s Tavern in the original building
1947 The present building was constructed. It continued to be run by the Scheidts as Ruben’s Tavern until 1949.
1949-1958 Hi-way Tavern owned by “Chubby” Marian Windslow and Fred Erpp
1958-1970 Hi-way Inn owned by Bill Arth. Addition to west side of building in 1961
1970-1990 Cheever’s Hi-way Tavern owned by Burt Cheever
1990-1992 Dead End Saloon owned by Bill Micek
1992-1998 Potsy’s owned by Allen Roos
1998-2009 Sun Valley Bar and Grill owened bye Paul and Lois Pfundt.
Sun Valley Bar & Grill owned by Paul & Lois Pfundt opened December 15, 1998 after a total renovation inside and out. The dining room addition opened July 28, 2000, with the original facility being converted to the current game room, including pool tables and dart boards. The beer garden was added in the fall of 2007.
June 2009-current Sun Valley Bar and Grill was purchased by Todd Pfundt from his father. The bar has been remodeled with new seating areas and all new front room flooring. Improvement are continuing.
